Jennifer is a ceramic artist creating tiny art since the 1990s. As a college student she studied under Paula Winokur. When learning to throw off the hump (throwing consecutive pots on the wheel from one ball of centered clay) on an old motorized kick wheel, she began throwing a series of tiny pots. This led to a senior project where she made hundreds of tiny pots and hand built boxes. The joy of creating tiny functional pottery, in this method, continues to inspire her work today.
In 2020, when access to the studio and the pottery wheel wasn’t possible, Jennifer turned to hand building. This has opened a new direction of surface design for her and she often uses tiny stamps and painting with underglaze to decorate tiny boxes and wearable art.
“Just because something is large doesn’t make something small less powerful.”
